The Hospital League of Friends was formed over FORTY years ago, the objectives being to add to the patient care. League members are all volunteers and receive no remuneration or expenses.
It must be noted that 'The LEAGUE' is in no way connected to the WRVS
The League of Friends has two main activities, They are (a) the raising of funds to enable the purchase items for the hospital and (b) ancillary services for the Hospital
Funds are raised from four main sources, a Weekly Lottery, Legacies, Donations, Table Top Sales. Throughout the year we sometimes have other events such as Tombola Stalls and Car Boot Sales.
Being a Voluntary Organisation and in the light of current regulations which interfere with the running of the League we are very dependant on Legacies, Gifts and Donations.
We are also grateful for Sponsorship for various activities given by local Organisations.
The Money raised is used to buy either Medical and Surgical equipment for the hospital and items to improve patient comfort. In the past we bought equipment such as an Acoustic Scalpel (one of only four in the country) for use by Surgical Teams plus Arm Chairs for Day Rooms to improve Patient comfort.
The ancillary services that we provide are the running of two Help Desks in the Hospital entrances, the provision of Teas on the Stroke Wards and A&E Department, maintenance of flowers in the wards and the provision of Speech Therapy for stroke patients.
